‘Say No To Plastic’
Say no to plastic is a response to the overuse of plastic and its waste, contributing to the sea. This is a sculptural collage, created in collaboration with Shaheen. It is a mixed-media installation, created in the hopes of raising awareness towards plastic pollution and also regarding ways in which recycled plastic bottles can be repurposed for art.
This installation included a range of processes: watercolour, recycled bottle clusters, glue gun models (all handmade), biro sketches, paper collages, xerox art, and spray-painted sheets. This range of processes was predominantly done by me, as this was my project, for which I had Shaheen (instagram: @shaheenayubtextiles help me with some elements, like the placements in the installation and assisting in creating the bottle sculpts.
The artists I explored during this project were: Stephanie Kilgast, Elnaz Yazdini, Aurora Robson. These artists take a lot of interest and work with sustainability, which is part of my ethos as an artist to try to minimise waste created through art. I also prefer the rawness provided by repurposed items for art, as it adds a theoretical dimension.
This is a theme I enjoy exploring, as it is a common interest of the average person; this allows me to pursue my own art while maintaining a shared interest with my audience. This is important to me as my interests in abstract art and unpredictability with water are explored to some extent.
